Unimportant Specificity is a photographic exhibition by Joshua Whitaker and Blaine Atkins. The goal of this exhibition is to highlight and challenge the subjectivity of what is considered “mundane.” We have been fascinated by what is often considered visually simplistic and have caught ourselves looking at things that have a specific function but have the potential to be labeled to have no coherent meaning. We have compiled works on subjects that we consider mundane, yet adore. Items that people usually see in passing and don’t think much of. Through this lens, we offer others the chance to take part in the appreciation of ordinary entities. Because we have the opportunity to use a device that captures moments in time, it allows us to give the viewer our perception of these entities.
