The Foolish began as an exploration of the mystic from a skeptic’s perspective, cataloged into a book for a typography class. I was first intrigued by how drawn people seem to predictive devices, even if they do not believe in them. However, along the way I noticed how the modern day mirrors the 1970’s obsession with astrology, both times of a considerable amount of political turmoil in America. The book became about how the idea of a higher power’s predictions give humans comfort in times of distress. Humans use astrology and tarot, less as predictive devices but as a tool for self-reflection, and as a coping mechanism in the modern world. It gives the idea of control and understanding of what is to come in an overwhelming future. The Foolish is an experience for the silly, for those who want to believe in the future or for those who find it ridiculous, and create a fun atmosphere for those willing to play.
