ALISSA WALLS: SPACE CAMP

Gallery 1010 (UTK) / 1150 McCalla Ave. July 19, 2021 - July 29, 2021

Alissa Walls

This exhibition marks the first movement in the Space Trilogy, a series of three exhibitions that critically explores the concept of space. In my investigation, I attend to outer space as well as the relationship of space to body and breath. In doing so, I am committed to a deeper understanding of the cultural, political, and socioeconomic implications of space conceived as such. My MFA thesis show The Space Race (March 2021) marked the second episode in this trilogy, with the third and final exhibition Base Camp planned for early 2022. Whereas The Space Race explored the most abstract notions of space via two-dimensional and low-relief forms in black and cream, Space Camp addresses more popular ideas about space exploration and cosmology through a broader range of materials and media.
