SELECTED WORK FROM THE MICHAEL D. HILL COLLECTION

O'Brien Art Gallery (Roane State Community College) / 276 Patton Ln., Harriman, TN January 9, 2017 - February 23, 2017

January 9 - February 23, 2017

With imagery ranging from the erotic to the sacred, the artists in this exhibit all felt compelled to create paintings and sculpture using whatever materials were readily available. Their lack of formal training was not a hindrance to their attempts to capture and comment on the world around them, but actually liberated them from any outside notions of aesthetics and technique. They have achieved international recognition and are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of American Folk Art, the High Museum, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
