MICHAEL GILES AND ASHLEY ADDAIR: PRACTICES OF (NON)KNOWING

Fluorescent Gallery / 627 N. Central St. December 7, 2018 - December 28, 2018

Michael Giles
Ashley Dawn Addair

Addair and Giles forge a conversation through materiality and mark-making in this new collection of work. The dialogue originates in their communal studio space where, color, process, line, and form commingle informing their individual practices over a period of several years. These overlaps in the work became a bastion of intrigue and excitement leading to the collaboration of the current exhibition. Though each artist presents individual and specifically realized works, the interplay and discourse between images and the artists manifests as a working rumination on the act of creating itself. What is originality and how does collaboration inform the expression and boundaries of ownership? How do the underlying structures of shared space find physical form?

These rhetorical devices serve the basic human instinct toward existing in the tension between understanding and mystery.
