Tri-Star Arts is pleased to present a pair of site responsive, multichannel sound installations titled Occlusion Numbers by John C. Kelley (Knoxville, TN) in the carriage house at the historic Candoro Marble Building on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm as well as Friday, October 2, 2026 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, artist in attendance, one day only events.
John C. Kelley is a filmmaker and artist from south Arkansas. His works in video and sound installation have been included in exhibitions at venues including the Spartanburg Art Museum, the CICA Museum in South Korea, State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Greece, Arts Fort Worth (TX), Unrequited Leisure (Nashville), among others. His animated short films GUSTER, A Family that Steals Dogs, and Slower Animals have earned acclaim internationally, having received best animation nominations (Raindance, UK), awards for best sound design (Ottawa International Animation Fest, CAN), best animation and overall excellence in filmmaking (Toronto Arthouse, Animattikon Project, Florida Animation Festival). He is the recipient of three Vimeo Staff Picks, A Filmmaker’s Recognition Award from ASIFA-South, and an Inaugural Vimeo Short Film Grant in 2025 for his film The Ineffable Hum. He has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences in Georgia and Cow House Studios in Wexford, Ireland. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
