JESSIE VAN DER LAAN: INTEGUMENTS

Hamilton Center for the Arts (Lincoln Memorial University) / 703 Brooklyn St., Cumberland Gap, TN January 9, 2017 - January 29, 2017

Jessie Van der Laan

This exhibit by Jessie Van der Laan in new work that is informed by her training as a printmaker, and a childhood spent knitting, sewing, drawing, and daydreaming. Her current body of work creates cavernous spaces which include layers of transparency building to obscurity, and moments of clarity formed within darkness. While navigating the intersecting roles of life as an artist, teacher, mother, wife, and friend, combined with reflecting on current societal events, she considers the layers that make a whole. Dreams, worries, hopes, and fears, are physically manifested as caverns, hollows, and perforations. The show includes prints, published in the summer of 2016 at Pele Prints of St. Louis, MO and recent fiber works.
