Herb Rieth

Herb Rieth’s work employs fabric, particularly used fabric, to create work that tells a story.  Some of the narrative is in the history of the fabric itself and some of it is derived from the imagery on the fabric. His use of fabric dates from his childhood, learning to sew from his mother and grandmother, but also his manufacture and repair of his punk rock clothes in High School. Because he was trained as a painter, color, shape and composition of the work is very important and pieces of painting are often incorporated into the work.
