Found in Translation features visual artists working with text across multiple languages. Rather than approaching the gap between languages from the perspective of loss and lack, it explores the question of what the movement between languages creates or reveals. Art making is uniquely suited to exploring this question of what we find in translation. If we consider art as visual language, then the creation of art is in itself a kind of translation. Like a translator, the artist at work is constantly making decisions about how to effectively communicate and may similarly find that they uncover new layers of understanding in the process. In viewing this group of artists in conversation with one another, viewers are invited to reflect on what is possible in multilingual communication and bring a sense of curiosity to their own encounters across languages.
