Dee Hoffman
Recent work by Etowah-area artist and graphic designer, Dee Hoffman, will be on exhibit in the Willson Exhibit Room at The Arts Center this fall. Upside Down and Inside Out will be on view September 4-November 9, 2018. The opening reception for the exhibit is at 5:30 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018 and is free and open to the public.
Dee Hoffman works in graphic design, paints in watercolor, and creates sculptural installations. She grew up in the Midwest and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications from Northern Illinois University. Hoffman has also participated in the Fine Arts Program at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Her work has been exhibited on the West Coast and in Chattanooga, Athens, and Etowah, Tennessee.
Hoffman’s work is a juxtaposition and layering of unconventional materials that play off of natural forms. The artist wants to push the boundaries and articulate the unseen that hides in everyday life. She goes into the woods and wanders the trails to gain new perspective. Vines jump out of the trees and become lines that move out into space. Sticks that overlay each other form bridges and barricades. Things sometimes seem upside down and inside out. Sometime Hoffman finds herself on unmarked terrain, without a map. Out of this uncertainty comes the promise of new possibilities and unanticipated outcomes.
