The Black Visages feature six rug tufted portraits created by Black Appalachian artists Akintayo Akintobi, Cornelia Briscoe, Jason Flack, Doniqua Joyner, Karen Sullivan and Fran Willis curated by the late Lyn Govette as result of the Jerry Machen Workshop last March 2025 in partnership with the ETSU Art & Design, Slocumb Galleries and Langston Centre with funding from Arts Build Communities (ABC) Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission through the First Tennessee Development District as part of the Crafting Blackness Initiative.
