The paintings and drawings in the show "Between Here & There", are inspired by the images and memories collected by the artist while living in Okinawa, Japan, and traveling in the Pacific. Many pieces represent the moments when you've left one place and haven’t arrived at the next.

This show also includes a grid of paintings and drawings inspired by the artist's father’s experience in Okinawa, Japan in 1964 and her experience 50 years later. Their time spent on the island is very different and complex, but his love of the culture has motivated Untz to explore and see as much of Okinawa as possible. Much like he did.

About the Artist:
Stephanie Untz was raised in Texas but really calls Knoxville, TN her home. Her past work has mostly focused on portraiture, using drawing, painting and printmaking. Since she has moved to Okinawa, Japan, she has been creating paintings and drawings based off the landscape around her. In this new work, she is also mixing in her love of wood sculpture and her new exploration using wood burning as a tool for drawing. Steph Untz received her MFA from University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN in 2011. She has lived in Okinawa, Japan for the past 3 years.
