Mary-Margaret Lucas

I find something inspiring in seeing how far you can push a piece of paper, with how much ink it can hold. There is a seduction in the darkness of the ink. A frantic calmness is involved in the process. There is a desire for the drawings to do nothing but exist; for them to just be in the ways that I cannot. There are not only differences between white and black but also within the black. My works are self-portraits. If you look long enough you can see that there are differences between my identical and myself.
