ARTH 410 CONTEMPORARY ART STUDENT EXHIBITION

Fine Arts Building Gallery (UT Martin) / 16 Mt. Pelia Rd., Martin, TN November 15, 2018 - December 1, 2018

As part of the ARTH 410 “Contemporary Art” course, students collectively selected a theme and created artworks for an exhibit through which they explore various aspects of that theme in their pieces. This year the class chose “Identity” as their focus. Using many different media they have reflected on what the concept means to them through their various pieces. In keeping with the spirit of postmodernism, media considered more traditional is seen alongside a range of less traditional ones including found and installation pieces and works with which the viewer can interact. The important thing in much of contemporary art is conveying meaning, getting a message across. And the messages shared here are some of what these students think and feel about their experiences as a human from their unique perspectives.
