Miranda Curitis, Aaron Schmittou

The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design is proud to invite you to the BFA thesis exhibitions of Miranda Curtis and Aaron Schmittou. The exhibitions will open in the Barbara Beach student gallery on the second floor of the Art + Design building with a reception Monday November 5th from 5-7pm with remarks at 5:30pm. The shows will remain daily from 9-4:30p open until Thursday November 8.

This week, Austin Peay graduating senior Miranda Curtis will present her Senior Thesis exhibition: A Worry of Dolls at APSU’s student gallery. The gallery will feature a series of hand made dolls. The artist wants to take the view of what is considered creepy and weird and giving them a new life in a new configuration of appearance. By creating these figures in a medium that is playful it creates a feeling of intrigue over the typical feeling of trepidation.

Senior Aaron J. Schmittou's thesis exhibition Terraforming Ghosts will consist of a series of large scale sculptures and wall hangings, exploring the themes of the natural world, including death, terraforming, ghosts, and plant life. Tennessean by birth, Aaron J. Schmittou enjoys travelling extensively when he can and utilizes these experiences heavily when conceptualizing his work. Along with this, he maintains an active and experimental studio practice. His painting and sculptures consist primarily of found objects, glass, and acrylic paint and are known for exploring the spacial relationship between the viewer and the work.
