Townsend Atelier is pleased to announce its next art exhibition, Where Will You Spend Eternity, a visual re-creation of lower Appalachia through the eyes of Chattanooga artist, Grace Haley. The artist examines the polarizing political climate of Tennessee while also honoring the fringe underlayer through painting, fiber art, and live floral installation. Come explore Grace's alternate reality of the South; one that is queer, raunchy, and free.
The public is invited to an opening reception, Friday, September 11 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Townsend Atelier, 301 East 11th Street. The exhibition will be on weekdays from 10 a.m.4 pm EST or by appointment through September. The opening and exhibit are open to the public free of charge.
Grace Haley is an Appalachian artist deeply moved by mountains, creeks, and southern steeples. Through fiber arts and painting, she creates landscapes that represent her experience in the South as a queer woman. Grace is inspired by roadside folk art and Bible Belt iconography. Deeply rooted in community organizing and the history of resilience and change in Eastern Tennessee, Grace gives representation to a vibrant and progressive subculture often overlooked by outsiders to the region.
About the artist:
Grace Haley (b. 2002) is an artist, arts administrator, and community organizer. She earned a BS in Filmmaking in 2024 from MTSU and completed the Arts Build Holmberg Arts Leadership program in 2026. She currently resides in Chattanooga, TN and is the studio manager of Townsend Atelier. She also runs a youth mental health empowerment program, connecting youth, local artists, and non-profit organizations in her city.
The exhibition will include acrylic and oil paintings, and fiber arts. Works are available for purchase.
Townsend Atelier is a visual art school offering art classes and workshops to all levels and ages in painting, drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, and more. The atelier also has an art materials store chock full carefully selected art materials.
