LINDA KING FERGUSON: KISS THE SKY

Channel To Channel / 3800 St. Elmo Ave., Suite 111 January 7, 2023 - January 28, 2023

Linda King Ferguson

Channel to Channel presents Kissing the Sky, a solo exhibition of works by Linda King Ferguson. This will be the last exhibition in Channel To Channel’s current gallery space.

Described by the artist as a way to put back some positivity in the world, Kissing the Sky is a story inspired by the meteorological phenomenon of Sundogs (parhelia). These are the occurrences of bright spots straddling the Sun in a 22° halo. Ferguson’s upcoming show at Channel to Channel consists of the artist's impressions, sourced straight from nature.

Inspired by multiple Sundog viewings which became a meaningful moment of reflection during the COVID-19 isolation, the artist created her perceptual abstract paintings of these chromatic features. Each of the Sundogs is painted with acrylic on cut and uncut paper, linen and wooden panels. Their colors remind us of the seasonal hues of gradient scales and patterns, creating optical experiences through their geometric formations and emitting a visual vibration imitating the radiating sunlight. The energy in Sundogs shifts through their labyrinth-like structures, interweaving cultural iconography and ephemeral experiences.

Linda King Ferguson is an artist living and working in the Au Train Township, MI and Nashville, TN. She has received her MA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has been awarded several art residencies and presented many solo exhibits, among them The Waiting Room exhibit held at the Channel to Channel gallery (March 2021). Linda King Ferguson is the Founder and Director at The Bakery, a former artist-run project space in Munising, MI.

Opening Reception will be Saturday, January 7, 2023. 5-8 PM.
