Chattanooga’s visual artists represent a wide array of artistic practices. The main exhibit will include 29 works from 21 artists from all over the Chattanooga Metropolitan area. Featured works range from sculpture, assemblages, ceramics, glass, multimedia and installation art. Our Landis Education Gallery will display student work from Central, Cleveland, and Soddy-Daisy High Schools, as well as McCallie and Baylor. Historically, AVA has been good about showcasing more two dimensional works but we do not want to neglect opportunities to highlight the three dimensional artists in our midst. While some artists are employing a variety of processes that embody traditional methods, others are engaging with more contemporary practices. AVA Curator Tim Goldsmith hopes to “move work ‘off the walls’, so to speak, and into the open floor space of the gallery. Some artists took the title Off the Walls to go in an eccentric or unconventional direction with their work.”
