Erin High’s work reflects on the evocative nature of images: A photograph of a boy, a deer, a chain linked fence, film stills and subtitles, pictures through window frames, or the texture and sound of a landscape.

This exhibition explores personal and compelling images that vary in both form and implication but also have a shared potency. The images are chosen based on thought-provoking content that High recreates in order to capture a moment before it ends, providing a small realization or a vital feeling.

High is interested in finding relationships between fragmented ideas, complexity, and emotional experiences within the stillness of a picture. Her work contrasts both scale and material, which includes: charcoal, cotton, plaster and richly pigmented color. This conversation between material and image is an important partnership and often the line between them is subtle. Erin uses them both in a way that reveals their delicate presence, yet undeniable physicality.

Fall 2016 Apothecary students have chosen works from UTC students and Chattanooga artists to compliment High's works on view.

Join us this Thursday for the Opening (5-7pm) and Artist talk (6 pm)!

Erin prior to the opening will be giving an informational lecture on graduate studies at MICA at 4:30.
