BENJAMIN BROWN: DARK & STORMY AND TAPESTRY OF ART & LIFE
Heart Gallery / 110 East Main St. October 11 - 31st
Benjamin Brown
Benjamin Brown has been creating art from an early age. In high school, he won awards for his drawing ability. Benjamin has experienced many ups and downs in his life, but through it all has used art as a means of expressing and healing himself. At times that he was without a roof he never stopped creating, using whatever material he could find, including white-out, ballpoint pens, pencils, highlighters, and any type of paper or cardboard to use as a canvas. Throughout the trials and tribulations, victories and falls, health and sickness, art has been a constant source of strength. This show is a reflection of the incredible talent of a kind-hearted, gentle, sensitive, quiet, intelligent, resilient artist who has an inner drive to create no matter what. His subject matter is dichotomous in that it portrays the light and the dark, the beautiful and the ugly, the turbulent and the calm.
GHOST began his art journey in sixth grade when he would build things with sticks and anything he could find. He's come a long way to express himself away from a tough father, an intense stutter, and a head journey. He feels lucky to have survived his colorful youth. In the past, he once served as an assistant to a jail chaplain. He is a member of AIM center and came to HART gallery from a class that we offered at Riverview towers. Ghost is our gallery "chemist" using soap and even avocado skins to make different textures with paint.
